Field of Research: Beta thalassemia, Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) and Gene Therapy.

Our research focuses on following areas (1) Molecular basis of beta-thalassemia disease (2) Gene therapy using iPSCs.  We are generating mouse and human beta-thalassemia iPSCs, which is one of the most common hematologic disease in Thailand, and differentiating them into hematopoietic cell in order investigating the disease related pathologenic mechanisms, the discovery and screening for new therapeutic drugs in vitro. In addition, we have corrected the beta thalassemia mutation after iPSC production by lenviral gene transfer. In the future we plan to correct the human beta-thalassemic iPSC by gene replacement using Transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs) technology. Success of gene correction in iPSCs may offer a potentially attractive strategy for clinical development in the future.
