An efficient RNA interference (RNAi) based approach for shrimp viruses inhibition have been developed for a decade. However, the bottle neck of this approach is the application into a farm.
A formulated dsRNA diet specific to PmDNV, one of the major causes of stunted shrimp in the aquaculture in Thailand, has been successfully produced.
It reduces the PmDNV in Penaeus monodon shrimp after feeding for a couple of weeks both in the modes of protection and curative, suggesting that this diet has a high potential for application in commercial farm for reducing PmDNV associated retarded growth of shrimp
