Nicha Puangmalai, Thailand
Ph.D. Neuroscience
Literally, the knowledge and skills acquired from the university have greatly improved not only my academic skills, but also my social life.
I joined the Neuroscience PhD program at Mahidol University in 2010 and graduated in 2016.During this time, I was sponsored by the Thailand Research Fund-Royal Golden Jubilee PhD Program which played an essential role in my graduation and in providing opportunities for my research experience abroad. Literally, the knowledge and skills acquired from the university have greatly improved not only my academic skills, but also my social life. I could not have succeeded if I did not have such a supportive family and friends. To me, doing a PhD needed tremendous dedication. However, I could find a balance between studying and relaxing throughout my achievement.I always believe that when people have clear goals in mind, they will eventually achieve their dreams. I aimed to have a career abroad since I was an undergrad student at Chiang Mai University. To pursue my purposes, I put myself into enriched environments rather than waiting for opportunities to come to me. Attending conferences and networking with new people were how I approached opportunities to get a career in neuroscience. Also, I applied for jobs via email and had skype interviews. It was so exciting for me to go out of my comfort zone. Currently, I am a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch, which is like a dream come true. Most importantly, I can expand my horizons in neuroscience with professional people. I definitely encourage all MB students to believe in their abilities to reach their goals.
