Research Summary

The primary focus of my research is on infectious diseases, specifically the emerging viruses causing economic and health problems in Thailand, which include dengue, Zika, and enterovirus 71, the causative agent of hand, foot, and mouth disease. In particular, I am most interested in the host-virus interaction, including the viral entry and host cell response to viral infection. This insight brings about a better understanding of virus pathogenesis providing further research direction on diagnosis, therapeutics, and vaccine development. Currently, this interest conveys to various projects in our laboratory, including the development of live-attenuated Zika vaccine candidates, the selection of virus strains for the development of vaccines against hand, foot, and mouth disease, and the study of an effect of pre-existing dengue immunity to Zika virus infection in non-human primates. Furthermore, with collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chak Sangma from Kasetsart University, the research expands to the development of a biosensor for virus detection, intending to cover all research areas; diagnosis, treatment, and protection against infectious diseases.
